Data Collection for 2024-25 School Year Incidents
Data Collection:听SSEC incident data for schools and districts may be submitted to the Department via IDEx (our IRS Data Exchange application), by logging into the 听产别迟飞别别苍听June 23, 2025听补苍诲听July 21, 2025. If you need further details, visit our .
Early Reporting:听Schools that have been directed to do so by the Department must submit the SSEC Summary data collection form by听July 8, 2025.听 The report must be submitted to the Department using the听.

This section contains links to other information regarding SSEC reporting (formerly known as VADIR/DASA reporting).
Federal law requires each state to determine annually which public elementary and secondary schools are 鈥減ersistently dangerous.鈥 Each state may set its own criteria to assess and compare levels of violence across schools. New York bases its 鈥減ersistently dangerous鈥 determinations on two years鈥 worth of VADIR data. Since 2008 New York used a 鈥淪chool Violence Index鈥 (SVI) comprised of a sum of weighted incidents divided by the school鈥檚 K-12 enrollment.
Schools designated as persistently dangerous must submit to SED an听Incident Reduction Plan听explaining the steps to be taken to increase school safety.听 In order to be removed from the list, the school superintendent (or chief executive officer of a charter school) must petition the Commissioner of Education.听 Before the petition for removal is granted, SED will:
- Review the school鈥檚 most recent SSEC data to verify that the school no longer meets the criteria for designation 听
- Evaluate the school鈥檚 SSEC data collection system and data extracts to ensure that the system captures the required information and reports incidents accurately 听
- Conduct a site visit to:
- Review individual report records for reporting accuracy
- Review progress with the implementation of the Incident Reduction Plan
- Complete a safety walk-through to determine that the school meets acceptable standards for safety and security
Once a school meets all of these conditions, the Commissioner (or designee) may grant the petition and remove the school from the list of persistently dangerous schools.听
